About
This is the personal web site of Doug Poretz, co-founder of Qorvis Communications. Here, Doug comments on a world in transition, leveraging his 40+ years of experience as a communications advisor and implementer for numerous organizations of all types and sizes, plus his long-standing interest in philosophical issues.
Among the primary themes discussed here are those that relate to the communications business and the process of communicating messages, business models in general, and political and economic trends that influence and/or are influenced by communications.
A core premise of Doug’s writings is that the world is in the midst of a transition from a manufacturing to a knowledge economy. In that regard, his thinking has been influenced by a long line of philosophers and observers, but the thoughts expressed here are his own. He believes that many of the fundamental tenets and processes of the manufacturing economy will be irrelevant in a knowledge economy, the same way many sacrosanct beliefs and ways of doing things in an agrarian economy became irrelevant in the shift to the manufacturing economy. His writings often are biased by this basic view, and he tends to look at things from that perspective – in the process, he tries to raise some questions or suggest some conclusions that might not be obvious with the current world view. In his first article, “Hello,” he provides an overview of some of his basic thinking and an explanation of why he calls this site “Death of Time.”
His articles are organized in the Archives section not only chronologically but grouped by subject matter also, to make it easy to follow Doug’s thoughts on a particular topic because he often returns to the same themes but does not necessarily do that in a chronologically serial way.
This is meant to be a site where discussion and interactivity is encouraged. Readers may post their comments at the end of each article, or may communicate directly and more privately with Doug.
